About Dr. Beck
Dr. Valerie Beck is a research chemist with a Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from Duke University. She currently works in a leading materials science lab in North Carolina’s Research Triangle Park, where she helps develop new polymers and sustainable materials. Her work involves complex reactions and a deep understanding of molecular structures.
Despite her advanced work, Dr. Beck has never lost her love for the simple “magic” of chemistry—the kind that fizzes, changes color, and sparks curiosity. She believes that chemistry is often seen as intimidating, and she is on a mission to change that. For EduEarth4U, she draws on her expertise to design experiments that are not only safe and educational but also genuinely spectacular, revealing the amazing chemical reactions happening all around us every day.
Valerie is a passionate home cook who views her kitchen as a second lab, constantly experimenting with the chemistry of food. She also enjoys glassblowing, a hobby that perfectly combines her love of heat, chemistry, and art.
My Writing Philosophy
“Chemistry is the art of transformation. It’s what turns simple ingredients into a delicious meal, and basic elements into incredible new materials. I want to pull back the curtain on this art. My goal is to show you the ‘how’ and ‘why’ behind the fizz, the bang, and the glow, and to help you see that the whole world is a chemistry experiment waiting to happen.”
